Running Reboot: Day 1

Temp: 60F at 8:15 a.m.

Today was the start of my running reboot. I haven’t run in several months; in fact, my last competitive run was the Marana Egg Nog Jog 5K on January 1.

Why I Needed a Reboot

There are many factors of why I haven’t had the energy to keep up with running. The biggest reason is work. For months (pretty much since I posted last), I’ve been doing too much – by saying yes to client work and project schedule changes that creates a nearly-impossible workload. This has equated to longer days, working through weekends, and yes, even through the holidays. My energy has been completely zapped for weeks now.  Continue reading “Running Reboot: Day 1”

Ready for a Fitness Change

People look at me and assume that I am fit. While I am the first to admit that I am much healthier than I was eight years ago (before I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at age 35), I still struggle with fitness.

I am ready for a fitness change.

I am not unlike many other people I know. I sit at my desk all day (I am a copywriter and content marketing strategist), and the activities I enjoy the most are sedentary: reading books, watching hockey on television and cross-stitching. All involve sitting my butt on the comfy chair in the living room.

But 8 years ago when I discovered I was diabetic, I had a choice: to manage this chronic illness with medication or to manage it with diet and exercise. Continue reading “Ready for a Fitness Change”
